The Department of Food and Food Security Act
Amendments
Title
- This Act may be cited as the Department of Food and Food Security Act.
Department established
2 (1) There is hereby established a department of the Government of Canada called the Department of Food and Food Security over which the Minister of Food and Food Security appointed by commission under the Great Seal shall preside.
And all other places where Agriculture and Agri-food Canada is named, it shall be replaced with Food and Food Security
Powers, duties and functions of Minister
4 The powers, duties and functions of the Minister extend to and include all matters over which Parliament has jurisdiction, not by law assigned to any other department, board or agency of the Government of Canada, relating to
- (a)food and agriculture;
- (b)products derived from food and agriculture; and
- (c)research related to food and agriculture and products derived from them including the operation of experimental farm stations and other federally controlled facilities that play a role in food system function
All references to current trade agreements shall be removed as at this stage in the transition, current trade deals have been abrogated.
